Day 17: Thursday, October 24 - Royal College of Surgeons...Class in Ireland

I guess we shouldn't complain too much, we did not have to be at class until 12, noon!  For some reason, it is just so much more tiring here in Dublin - probably the dreary weather...even so- we have been so lucky and not had any rain really for Ireland standards.  Regardless, we stopped for a cappuccino!!!

We made it to RCSI with no troubles and a little time to spare!

When we walked in, we met a security guard who asked us to sign in while he called for Judith Strawbridge, the program director.  She was a very welcoming, kind lady who gave us our schedule for the next two days.  Additionally, the students had lab this afternoon, so she gave us their assignments and asked us to sit in the coffee shop to complete them prior to coming back at 1.

Luckily, before the coffee shop she gave us a tour of this amazing school:). It is an incredible building with so much history... Soo pretty and interesting:)

Their exam room.... I wish ours looked like this!!!

The original chair!

The door that exited this room has an original bullet hole in it from back in the 1700s!!!

Here was our assignment...

Remember what I said the cardex for hospitals was all handwritten??  Well here is a shorter example of what they look like-- yesssss purely handwritten!!!!!

During class she asked us if cotrimoxazole was available in the United States... Well Cayla and I had blank stares and acted like we'd never heard of the drug... So we told her noooo way!!!  Lol... Well I googled it and in the states it's called Bactrim --  oops!  This class was so interesting and she reminded me exactly of one of our professors- Dr. Pater!  Both awesome professors and instead of just answering a question, they go into the why of your decision of a medication and someone asked goals of gentamicin trough/peaks and she told them to look it up!!  It was really great I thought with the cases and how she approached going over them... It was great for Cayla and I!!!!

Only problem for us was they use all different goals and units of measurement then us here so it threw us off... Otherwise a really great class that had a very similar approach that we use!!

After class, they have this awesome mall next to the college where Cayla and I went to get our Halloween costume!!!:)

I'm VERYYYY excited for America for the pure fact that bathrooms are free... Thank goodness I'm so sick of paying for public bathrooms in Europe!!!  So,e places charge €1 for the stinking bathroom!!!!

After we purchased our cheap costumes we decided to eat Nandos and see bad grandpa in the cinema!!!  Such a fun and educational day:)

Irish word of the day:  wrecked= tired !!!  Class tomorrow at 9am sharp!!
